Joaquin's Tale...
Joaquin came to Camp Tails in early 2025, with his companion Josie, from owners who could no longer take proper care of them due to aging and health issues. Joaquin is in his mid-20's and has the gentlest, kindest way about him. He loves to go on walking adventures and prefers to be leash/lead free. When he stops for a grazing snack and realizes he is out of sight of Josie, he franticly runs to find her. It is the sweetest gesture of love and commitment. It's the only time we see this stoic handsome fellow lose his composure.
One of our favorite things about Joaquin is his love of singing. While all of our donkeys (and one mini-mule) get vocal around mealtimes and actively call out to one another when they are separated, Joaquin actually sings. We first noticed it when we put on music and Joaquin let out a soft, soulful tune of notes. We're not talking just your typical "hey-haw." This was a prolonged stream of different notes in a soft soothing tune. Now, even without music, he will periodically sing a tune, which everyone feels special to hear.
Due to Joaquin's age and his past as a riding donkey, he has arthritis in his hind quarter and takes supplements to help ease the pain. Other than that, he is a happy, healthy and very handsome guy.
Wanna help keep Joaquin feeling good so he can continue to freely frolic?
